Performance Recording

  1. Ireland Breeders have always been to the forefront of breeding technology and most breeders are members of the Signet Recording Scheme. Their use of the Sheepbreeder service enables them to predict the breeding potential of their stock. The Scheme has been successful, as can be seen in the genetic progress made since the scheme began. The average breeding potential of the recorded IDF lamb crop in 2006 for growth to 21 weeks of age has increased by half a kilo and Estimated Breeding Value (EBV) for muscling is up by over 30%. These are highly significant changes to the breeding potential of N. I. Ile de France and will be financially beneficial to sheep breeders using these stock through the production of lambs with superior carcasses, better growth rates and faster finishing.

The Ile de France is one of the most respected breeds in the world, famed as much for the vigour of its newborn lambs as it is for its carcase quality. Performance recording in N. Ireland enables breeders to continue to enhance the breed and work to ensure that it receives the recognition that it deserves as a versatile and highly productive terminal sire.
